FREN 044. Tyrans et Révolutionnaires

Cinema and literature offer an interesting vantage point to understand the historical events that led to the French Revolution of 1789. Through films such as La Reine Margot, Les Trois Mousquetaires, and Marie-Antoinette, and literary texts related to the circumstances that these films depict, the course aims to provide an overview of early modern French culture. We'll conclude our discovery by examining the legacy of the French Revolution, in particular as it relates to the Haitian Revolution (1791-1804) and its representations.
