DANC 001B. FYS Introduction to Dance StudiesHow does dance create meaning beyond physical fitness and form? In this course we will study dance through philosophical, cultural, historical, and aesthetic lenses. Through critical analysis of sources such as written texts, videos, and live performances, students will learn to view dance critically and to write about dance in context. We will watch and read about a broad range of theatrical and social dance, such as ballet, hip hop, and Chinese folk dance. From time to time, we will explore the course's topics through movement workshops. No movement experience is necessary. Humanities. 1 credit. Fall 2023. Gerdes.
