BIOL 111. Genome Regulation by Noncoding RNA

This seminar explores regulatory mechanisms governing gene expression, nuclear organization and inheritance.  We will specifically explore the ways in which non-protein-coding RNA contributes to gene regulation and the maintenance of genomic integrity, including the molecular bases for a variety of human pathologies such as cancer and aging.  Through extensive reading of primary literature and laboratory research, students ca be expected to gain an in-depth understanding of the properties, functions and evolution of noncoding RNAs in critical genomic regulatory processes and current applications to human disease research.
Prerequisite: Any Group I course or BIOL 024, or BIOL 025, or permission of instructor. 
Natural Science and Engineering practicum.
