POLS 071A. Special Topics: Chinese Foreign Policy in Comparative Perspective


This course aims to provide students with a nuanced understanding of the forces driving China's foreign policy since 1949. Is there a distinct "Chinese" stye of conducting and thinkng about foreign policy? To what extent can Chinese foreign policy be explained by political, social, and historical factors unique to China as opposed to forces and processes common to other great powers or authoritarian regimes in history? The course has a strong comparative focus, and will introduce students to basic tools of foreign policy analysis.
Prerequisite: POLS 004  
Social Sciences.
