LING 073Q. Computational Linguistics: Quantitative ApproachesThis course surveys computational and quantitative approaches to the study of human language. We will cover methods for modeling and understanding data in a variety of subfields of linguistics. Students will acquire skills to process linguistic data and implement simple algorithms for key tasks in language analysis. Topics to be covered include aspects of Natural Language Processing, regular expressions, finite state automata, quantitative historical linguistics, quantitative phonetics, data visualization, etc. No prior programming experience is required.
