ENGL 117. Theories and Literatures of GlobalizationThis seminar examines the literary and cultural dimensions of globalization. Pairing novels and short stories by major global writers with ethnographic and historical texts, we will examine the relationship between colonialism and postcolonialism; modernity and globalization; racial formation and the nation-state. By developing a critical engagement with theories of identity and difference, we will explore the ways in which global literatures engender new politics of nationalism, race, and sexuality. 20th/21st c.
