HIST 001A. First-Year Seminar: The Barbarian NorthThe seminar will explore how Germanic and Celtic societies emerged and solidified their identities as they came into contact with Roman institutions and Latin Christendom from ca. 100 to 1050 A.D. Students will choose to specialize in a current methodology, ranging from archaeology to gender. Writings of the period concerning saints, scholars, kings, and warlords will be stressed.
