LATN 023. The Roman NovelThis course focuses on Petronius' Satyricon and/or Apuleius' Golden Ass. Besides reading extensively from the works themselves, we will consider what the genre "novel" means in Latin, what these works have to tell us about Roman society and language, and various other topics arising from the novels and from contemporary scholarship about them.
