CHEM 126. Modern Main Group Chemistry This course will involve a survey of the molecular chemistry of the s- and p-block elements. The bonding and electronic structures of molecules from across this broad class of elements will be examined and an understanding of their structure-property relationships will be developed. A survey of elementary reactions and catalytic applications of the molecules will also be discussed. This will be complemented by a discussion of physical inorganic techniques and molecular orbital theory as applied to the main group elements. Material will largely be drawn from the primary literature and students will read, evaluate, and discuss scientific papers critically throughout the course. Prerequisite: CHEM 056 Natural sciences and engineering. 1 credit. Spring 2026. Graves.
