EDUC 141. Educational Policy This honors seminar examines educational policy research, analysis and action for the public good. The course focuses on the educational system of the U.S. city of Philadelphia and related social issues to study the design, implementation, analysis and evaluation of educational policy and educational policy formation processes. While grounded in a framework of critical education policy studies, the course will introduce a variety of traditions of policy analysis to expand our collective “policy analysis toolbox,” including historical, political, sociological and educational approaches. Fieldwork, related to the Cultivating Community Together research study, as a way to apply what is being taught in the course is required. Honors candidates and students using this seminar as the capstone must take the seminar for two credits, course students may opt to take it as a 2- or a 1- credit seminar. Prerequisite: EDUC 014 and one additional EDUC course numbered in the 60s.
