BIOL 016. Microbiology Students will examine the microbial world in this course with an emphasis on the genotypic and phenotypic diversity of bacteria. Students will explore topics including the cellular structure and function, growth, genetics, ecology, and metabolism of microbes. Importantly, students will investigate the impact of microbes on our daily lives, from their role in human health and disease to their involvement in the environment, agriculture, and food safety. In the laboratory, students will use a range of basic microbiological techniques to safely and effectively grow and characterize bacteria. Students will also design and execute experiments using cutting-edge microbiological approaches and technology.
