ECON 046. The Facts and Economics of Education in America (Cross-listed as EDUC 069 ) This course investigates the relationship between issues of resource allocation and educational attainment. It examines the facts about student achievement, educational expenditure in the United States, and the relationship between them. It studies such questions as: Does reducing class size improve student achievement? Does paying teachers more improve teacher quality and student outcomes? The course also investigates the relationship between educational attainment and wages in the labor market. Finally, it analyzes the effects of various market-oriented education reforms such as vouchers and charter schools. Prerequisite: ECON 001 and any statistics course (or the consent of the instructor). An education class is encouraged but not required. Social sciences. 1 credit. Fall 2024. Staff.
