HIST 053. History of the Black Body Through this course, students will read a variety of historians’ approaches to the study of the Black body from the earliest days of slavery through the present. Topics include representations of Black bodies in art and literature, Black people’s embodied experiences of pleasure and pain. Black people’s experiences of health, reproduction, suffering, and healing, the ways Black bodies have been controlled and how Black people resisted. Concentrations: Gender and Sexuality, Science, Medicine, and Environment Social sciences. Writing course. 1 credit. Eligible for BLST, GSST.
