THEA 002A. Acting I What is acting? How do actors make stories come alive in the company of an audience? What skills and methods do we draw on to create authentic, informed and imaginative performances? In this beginning studio course, we will explore foundational practices of theatrical play and performance. Coursework will focus on techniques for developing each student’s unique interpretive and expressive capacities within a context of contemporary theater. Participants will be led through a progression of physical, creative and reflective practices while working through original and existing texts. The semester’s work will culminate in monologues and short scenes performed for our peers.
This course welcomes all levels and abilities, whether you are a curious first-time actor or an experienced performer seeking your first engagement with the department. It is also useful for anyone seeking to develop interpersonal and presentational skills. Fulfills a general requirement for all theater majors and minors. Humanities. 1 credit. Fall 2024. Sandy.
