SPAN 070. El cuento latinoamericano: relatos de un continente


We will immerse ourselves in the world of the Latin American short story, a genre known for its rich storytelling that captivates and surprises, and which has brought Latin American literature global recognition.

Through lively discussions and close readings, we will explore the distinct features that define this genre and trace its fascinating development over time. We will dive into genres like fantastic literature, magical realism, detective stories, horror, and Latin American gothic fiction.

Expect to engage with works by authors from across the continent, including Horacio Quiroga, Jorge Luis Borges, Silvina Ocampo, Juan Rulfo, Clarice Lispector, Gabriel García Márquez, Mariana Enríquez, and many others.

This course offers an engaging and insightful exploration of Latin America’s cultural diversity through its short stories - an experience that is both enriching and enjoyable!
