RELG 013A. Indian Religion and Philosophy What is a person? Do we have souls? What is the nature of ultimate reality, and how can we come to know it? What accounts for the inequities of human existence? What constitutes ethical behavior? This course explores these and other questions as they are addressed by Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain philosophical traditions. While our emphasis will be on selected Indian schools of thought in their classical formulations (from 700 B.C.E. to the 14th century), the course will conclude with examples of more recent developments and interpretations by modern Indian thinkers.
