ARTH 013. Ancient Greece and Rome This course will examine the art and architecture of ancient Greece and Rome, highlighting how certain artistic and architectural traditions were used by political powers to control the population and to provide the basic infrastructure of civilization. Topics will include: the changing image of the human figure; mythological narratives and their iconography; the development, canonization, and diffusion of architectural forms; the integral role of images in the day-to-day religious and domestic practices of ancient people; and the turn from a Classical visual world to a Christian one.
