HIST 008C. From Leopold to Kabila: The Bad Twentieth Century in Central Africa This course is a survey covering the history of Central Africa from the onset of the “Scramble for Africa” in the 19th Century, the era of European colonial rule, the process of decolonization, and postcolonial struggles including the Rwandan genocide, warfare in Eastern Congo, and the violent extraction of industrial raw materials. Students will also discuss current events in Central Africa in relationship to the history covered in the course. Concentrations: Domination and Resistance; Migration, Diaspora and Space Social sciences. 1 credit. Eligible for BLST.
