LING 025. Sociolinguistics: Language, Culture, and Society (LCS) (Cross-listed as SOAN 040B ) How do language, culture and society fit together? How is language shaped by the world we live in and does it shape it? This course introduces students to language as a social practice with an emphasis on how spoken languages are used in everyday interactions.
Come learn about: Language and power, Language, social structures and inequality, Language and the nation-state, Multilingualism and code-switching, Language as a social practice, Language variation, Quantitative and qualitative approaches to language in society.
