THEA 021A. Fundamentals of Dramaturgy This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the art and practice of dramaturgy. Students will historical development and key theoretical frameworks and also gain an understanding of how dramaturgy has evolved across cultural and institutional contexts. In addition to examining important case studies, the course will explore the vital role of the dramaturg in the theater-making process. Students can expect to investigate the dramaturg’s contributions at every stage of production, from research and contextual analysis, new play development, and script evaluation, to season planning, institutional visioning, community engagement, and audience enrichment initiatives.
