CHIN 025. Contemporary Chinese & Sinophone Fictions and Social Change (Cross-listed as LITR 025CH ) This course examines critical social changes through literary narratives from China and Sinophone communities (such as Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Malaysia), with a primary focus on works published after the mid-1980s. The selected narratives articulate the historical specificity of ideological dilemmas and cultural dynamics through their imaginative engagements with desire, morality, politics, and environmental issues. Through textual analysis and class discussion, students will better understand contemporary Chinese and other Sinophone societies as well as become familiar with various means of interpreting literature. All lectures and discussions will be conducted in English, and all readings are in English translation. Humanities. 1 credit. Eligible for ASIA Spring 2026. Li.
