LING 031. Modality in Language: Mandarin and ASL as examples We look at five issues where modality effects might be expected to be evidenced, comparing the data on Mandarin and ASL and discussing possible ramifications for linguistic theory. The five issues range across the grammar. Prerequisite: One prior or concurrent course in linguistics. Note: No knowledge of Mandarin or ASL (or any other sign language) will be assumed.
