PSYC 113. Research Practicum in Emotion Regulation

In this course, students will conduct empirical research projects individually or in small groups in collaboration with the instructor. Projects include designing a study, collecting and/or analyzing data, and reporting and presenting the findings. Project topics will be negotiated at the beginning of the term. Projects will involve emotion regulation and can include EEG, peripheral physiology, and/or behavioral measures. Questions can focus on effects of emotion regulation, motivations to regulate emotions, or generalizability of emotion regulation across situations. For example, can we regulate climate change emotions better than other emotions? What is the effect of reappraisal on decision making? How can we accept our negative emotions? In what situations can emotion regulation be maladaptive? What is the cost of feeling good?
