ENGR 086. Dynamics of Mechanical Systems Rigid-body kinematics and dynamics in plane and three-dimensional motion using fixed as well as moving reference frames. The course will use both Newtonian (i.e. force-based) and Lagrangian (i.e., variational) methods to derive the (differential) equations of motion for mechanical systems. The resulting equations will be solved analytically when possible and numerically using MATLAB or Python when appropriate.
Prerequisite: ENGR 006 , ENGR 012 , ENGR 021 , MATH 033 /MATH 034 /MATH 035 with a C- or better, and MATH 043 /MATH 044 with a C- or better; or permission of the instructor.
