HIST 054. Histories of Gender and Racial Capitalism

What is racial capitalism? How have gender and racial ideologies structured capitalism throughout history? How have Black and Native American people endured and resisted the rise of capitalism in North American and the Caribbean? How has gender influenced their experiences and actions? This history course will explore these questions and more. We will take a thematic approach to the intertwined histories of race, gender, and capitalism from the earliest days of slavery to the present, with a focus on markets, property, and labor.
