MATH 053. Topics in Analysis: Knot Theory This course introduces the study of knotted curves in 3-dimensional space. Topics include isotopy of knots, knot invariants, symmetries of knots, surfaces, and high-dimensional knot theory. Alternate years. Prerequisite: Both a grade of C- or better in, or placement out of, one of MATH 033, MATH 034, or MATH 035; and a grade of C- or better in, or placement out of, one of MATH 027 or MATH 028; or departmental approval. Some experience in reading and writing mathematical proofs is strongly recommended. Natural sciences and engineering. 1 credit. Eligible for COGS Spring 2027. Miller.
