ENVS 070. Introduction to Geographic Information Systems

This course is designed to introduce the foundations of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with emphasis on applications for environmental analysis in both proprietary and open-source software. It deals with basic principles of GIS and its use in spatial analysis and information management. Laboratory exercises provide practical experiences that complement the theory covered in lecture. By the end of this semester students should be capable of analyzing and managing environmental geospatial data. This course counts as an elective for both the ENVS major and minor.
