ENVS 039. Uprooted: Nationalism, Borders, and Climate Migration

Course description: This course investigates the topic of “climate migration.” What is climate migration and what are its causes? Who are most affected by environmental disaster, and why? What are the histories, institutions, and interests that shape climate migration? We examine contributing factors and effects such as the nation-state, borders, extractive capitalism, colonialism, nationalism, war, and humanitarianism. Together we imagine: how can we build a more just and equitable world where people are able to remain rooted in their land?
