BLST 064C. Black Protest and Possibility(Cross-listed as ENGL 064C) The third in a sequence of courses on the development of African American literature, this course examines both the rise of popular Black protest literature and other works that sought to counter, complicate, or complement it during the 1940s and 1950s. Through the work of such Black writers as Wright, Petry, Ellison, Baldwin, Brooks, Himes, Marshall, and Hansberry, we will consider how they addressed the dilemmas of racial representation. 1 credit.
