HIST 003B. Modern Europe, 1918 to the Present: Hot Wars, Cold Wars, Culture WarsThis course examines historical themes including modernity, fascism, racializing ideology, student activism, citizenship, and revolution. Through close analysis of primary and secondary readings, we will debate where we can locate "Europe" in the 20th century and how we define the boundaries of the century itself. Key historical actors and important years (Stalin, 1968, 1989...) will be emphasized, but we will also interrogate broader themes and ideas (decolonization, sexuality, postwar retribution). Recommended for teacher certification. Concentration: Domination and Resistance, Empires and Nations
