ARTH 065. Modern Architecture This course traces the development of modern architecture and the built environment from the Industrial Revolution in Europe to the global present with an emphasis on the critical debates that informed its production, practice and reception. We will study architecture as a social process and formal practice through a variety of methodologies. Important themes include, technology and materials, form and function, the identity of the architect, public and private space, housing and domesticity, monuments and informality, colonization and globalization.
