SOCI 048D. Sociology of Humor Humor and laughter are common elements of everyday life in most cultures, but what exactly are they, and what do they do? This course explores how humor is in fact a wonderfully complex and multifunctional phenomenon based on people managing social contradictions by switching their level of awareness. It looks at how this deceptively simple mechanism can then end up playing a number of important roles in communication, group identity formation, domination, resistance, and entertainment. 1 credit.
