ANTH 002F. Anthropology of Childhood and the Family The experience of being a child would appear universal, and yet the construction of childhood varies greatly across cultures and throughout history. This course examines childhood and child-rearing in a number of ethnographic contexts, investigating children as both social actors and as the target of specific cultural ambitions and anxieties. Topics include new forms of family and reproduction, children as objects (and agents) of violence, and representations of childhood in human rights discourse, among others. Eligible for GSST credit. Theory course. 1 credit. Spring 2015. Nadkarni. http://www.swarthmore.edu/sociology-anthropology Sociology and Anthropology
