This course investigates how, over the course of many centuries, the story of Narcissus has been reworked as a way to think about process of creative reflection and how we see ourselves in relation to others. At stake are questions of desire, gender, racial identities, and language. Authors include Ovid, Milton, Wilde, Freud, and Fanon; also visual art and film. Writing course. 1 credit. Fall 2014.
