ENGL 060. Early African American Print Cultures African American literature has traditionally been defined in terms of authorship, but how might we expand this definition to consider editing, illustration, printing, circulation, and reading? And how might this expanded definition change our understanding of the field? This course will examine a wide variety of 18th- and 19th-century African American print culture, including poetry, sermons, manifestos, newspapers, slave narratives, and novels. Group I (pre-1830) Eligible for BLST credit. 1 credit. Fall 2014. Cohen. http://www.swarthmore.edu/english-literature English Literature
