ARTH 014. Early Medieval Art and Architecture In this introduction to European art and architecture from late antiquity to the 12th century, special attention will be given to the “Romanization” of Christian art under Constantine, the Celtic Christian heritage of the British Isles and its culmination in the Book of Kells, Justinianic Constantinople and Ravenna, the Carolingian Renaissance, Romanesque sculpture as ecclesiastical propaganda, and the efflorescence of monastic art under the Cluniacs and Cistercians. 1 credit.
