CHEM 022. Organic Chemistry I An introduction to the chemistry of some of the more important classes of organic compounds; nomenclature, structure, physical and spectroscopic properties; methods of preparation; and reactions of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, halides, and monofunctional oxygen compounds, with an emphasis on ionic reaction mechanisms. Prerequisite: CHEM 010 or CHEM 010 HN . Natural sciences and engineering practicum. One laboratory period weekly.
