LING 037. Foreign Language Learning: Signed Languages (Cross-listed as EDUC 037 ) In this course we will study what is known about signed languages as foreign languages, and why it is so hard for hearing adult learners to acquire higher levels of proficiency, let alone native fluency. Through the study of literature, and where possible, practice research (small scale studies) with teachers and students of ASL, we will try and get a grip on how sign language teaching can be approached, and what are effective ways of teaching.
