ENGR 056. Modeling and Optimization for Engineering What is the optimal way to direct light into the body to destroy a tumor? What is the lightest bridge we can construct without the beams breaking? To answer such questions, students will learn how to generate a computer-based model of the physics, and then use optimization to make design decisions. The majority of the course will focus on optimization, and topics may include: convex optimization, data-driven optimization, algorithms, and deep learning. Prerequisite: One of MATH 033 , MATH 034 , or MATH 035 is required. Either ENGR 019 or MATH 056 is recommended. Students should be familiar with basic programming. Natural sciences and engineering. 1 credit. Eligible for ESCH Spring 2022. Ganapati. Catalog chapter: Engineering Department website: https://www.swarthmore.edu/engineering
