LING 105. Children’s Fiction Books: How to Deliver the Information We form a writer cirlce and create our own stories/books for children. In doing so, we will consider the role of words and the role of illustrations in children’s picture books, early readers, and first chapter books, examining how multiple modalities contribute, while not being redundant. We compare our findings to the role of words in novels – printed, in braille, and audio. Our work includes study of wordless picture books, video-recorded poetry/stories in a sign language with and without text, audio books created for blind children, and audio-tactile books created for blind children. This course is for writers/creators of children’s fiction, as well as linguists, psychologists, and education specialists interested in modality. Social Sciences. 1 credit. Eligible for ENGL with departmental approval. Fall 2025. Napoli. Department website: Linguistics
