ENGR 054. Environmental Data Analysis ENVS Welcome to Environmental Data Analysis! This course introduces students to probability theory, probabilistic models, stochastic processes, parameter estimation, and model evaluation for environmental systems. Most importantly, the course prepares students to analyze real-world environmental data, and to critically evaluate others’ data analyses (e.g., in the academic literature, in the professional context, and in the news). Students will design and complete an environmental data analysis project over the course of the semester.
In this course you will be introduced to a number of data analysis and modeling tools including spreadsheets (in Excel) and programming (in R). Students will also gain experience effectively communicating their work through writing (via assignments, lab reports, and a final project). The course meets weekly for 3 hours of lecture and biweekly for 3 hours of lab. This course will integrate lecture, discussion, problem solving, student projects, and hands-on laboratories involving real-world data analyses. Prerequisite: Calc 1 & Calc 2 (Math 15 & Math 25) Class will have lab & lecture 1 Spring 2027. Vergara.
