ANTH 072C. Memory, History, Nation How do national communities remember-and forget? What roles do commemoration and amnesia play in constructing, maintaining, or challenging national and collective identities? It reads theory and ethnography against each other to explore the politics and aesthetics of national memory across numerous sites and contexts, attentive to both the collectivities such commemorations inspire and their points of resistance or failure.
