PSYC 110. Research Practicum in Cognitive Neuroscience

In this project-based course, students survey and discuss research in neuroimaging through a variety of technologies (e.g., functional near-infrared spectroscopy, standard and wireless EEG, and fMRI) to test hypotheses about how cognitive processes or mental representations are implemented in the human brain. Specific content areas are discussed and negotiated early in the semester. Projects are conducted as small groups in collaboration with the instructor and include designing, implementing, analyzing, and reporting on an experiment in human brain imaging. Beyond the scheduled class meetings for discussion and tutorial activities, students should plan to organize additional meeting times to work on their projects. Familiarity with computer scripting languages (Matlab, Python, R) is helpful but not required, as computational tools and resources will be introduced throughout the course.

When taken in senior year, the course fulfills the comprehensive requirements for Psychology and Neuroscience. This course may not be taken as pass/fail.
