LITR 051G. European Cinema

Setting out from the cornerstones of aesthetics, history and memory, this course introduces you to post-war directors from Italian Neo-Realism, British and French New Waves, Eastern European Cinema, Post-New Wave Italian auteurs, Spanish cinema after Franco, New German Cinema, Swedish and Danish cinema. The course addresses key issues and concepts in European cinema such as realism, authorship, art cinema, and political modernism, with reference to significant films and filmmakers and in the context of historical, social, and cultural issues. Taught in English.
