Key issues to be discussed will include the ways in which ancient ethnic identities were forged, sustained, and elaborated through time; the intersection of gender, power, and ritual; and the diverse manners in which race was perceived and instrumentalized in different media across the cultures of the Grego-Roman, Egyptian, and ancient Near Eastern worlds.
