PEAC 155. Capitalism and Struggles for Climate Justice

This two-credit honors seminar will delve into relationships between capitalism and unprecedented disruption of the Earth’s climate. Advocates argue that technological innovations, driven by profit potentials, offer critical solutions for mitigating climate disruption. However, cultures and practices of capitalism also appear to fuel efforts to slow initiatives designed to avoid the most dangerous impacts of climate disruption. We will study resistance to these forms of structural violence, including front-line fights, where vulnerable populations and allies struggle for more just, equitable, and sustainable futures.
