FMST 042. Animation and Media This course surveys and investigates the history and evolution of animation, both as a medium “in itself” and as a set of practices and aesthetics that circulate across different media, technologies, and cultural settings. Our meetings will focus on engaged discussion of screenings informed by close readings of animation scholarship and criticism. Screenings will showcase a variety of animated material ranging from traditional narrative feature films and shorts to gaming, machinima, advertising, documentary, and experimental art. Assignments include critical essays and short creative projects. Humanities. 1 credit. Catalog chapter: Film and Media Studies Department website: http://www.swarthmore.edu/film-media-studies
