HIST 039. From Perestroika to Putin This course explores the legacy of communism in Russia after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. We start with an exploration of Mikhail Gorbachev’s policies and then turn to the impact of the policies of Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin on the economy, culture, society, and politics of Russia since 1991.
