MUSI 005D. The Magic of Film Music

Have you ever heard a movie without a soundtrack? The examples are few and far between. This is because music is an essential tool in shaping the audience’s experience of a film. Especially when moments on screen are hard to believe, like wizards flying, trees walking, and robots talking, we need music to help immerse us in new worlds. In this course, students will learn how to analyze film music and learn how it works together with the visual and narrative elements of film to bring magical scenes to life. The syllabus includes a wide variety of movies, including Encanto, Star Wars, Black Panther, and Wicked.
