BIOL 123A. Hallmarks of Neurodegeneration

Throughout this seminar, we will discuss key cell processes associated with neurodegenerative diseases. While neurological diseases have diverse origins and symptoms, several phenotypes are characteristic across many neurodegenerative diseases. We will discuss these hallmarks in detail, starting from initial molecular descriptions through modern findings. We will spotlight a range of diseases including Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, ALS, and Huntington’s Disease. Each week, we will consider primary literature and students will leave the class with a better understanding of how to read and understand scientific papers.
